J. Barenys' Train Pictures
Welcome to my on-line picture repository.
Yes, they are all trains. Why? Well, the thanks to all of this goes to my friend Noah Montena who somehow got me into the odd hobby of taking pictures of trains. Weird? You bet! But then I would also say the same thing about sitting on a dock, or a boat, all day hoping to get a fish stuck on a hook.
In any case, these are some of my favorite photos that I have taken over the past few years. Each of the thumbnails should expand to a larger 800x600 image. The reason that they are so small is due to limited web space and speed of download. Most all of the originals come from a 5MP Minolta DiMAGE 7Hi camera. Also, most of the images here were taken in the Rochester, NY, or Syracuse, NY, area.

New York Susquehanna & Western
The train in these two pictures (NYS&W 142) is a modern SY 2-8-2 Mikado class steam engine. It was built in 1989 by the TangShan Locomotive Works in China. The design is based on a slightly scaled down version of a pre-WWI Mikado class built for service in Japan by the American Locomotive Company (ALCo) in 1918.

Genesee and Wyoming
These two were taken as the train departed the American Rock Salt Company in Hampton Conrners, NY.
